i am currently taking lutera. this is the
first time i am on any sort of birth
control. i'm sorry if i sound paranoid,
because i can willingly admit that i am -
but how can i be sure that this dosage is
strong enough to prevent me from getting
pregnant? (i already know that it's not
100% effective). there are higher dosages
of birth control, but how will i know if
this is right for me?
thank you

It's not the dosage that matters. All
forms of hormonal birth control have the
proper dosage for almost every single
woman.
What matters is TIMING. You must take the
pill every day at the same time. That's
what will keep you safe. Even the highest
dose is useless if you are inconsistent.

Timing is definitely the key. The higher
dose pills and lower dose pills are both
99% effective as long as they are taken on
time. There are studies showing that the
number goes down with low dose pills
slightly for obese women, however, so if
you are overweight maybe you should
consider not using a low dose pill. Other
than that, there is nothing to worry about
and all kinds of pills are VERY effective
when taken correctly. Just make sure to
wait (usually 2 weeks, but depends on the
pill...read your packet) before having sex
without a condom/another form of
protection when you first start the pill!
