Q: Lupus (SLE)

Following a variety of periods of ill health, (the latest being most severe of all), I seem to finally be getting somewhere as far as diagnosis and treatment is concerned.
Following a positive ANA blood test at the GP I was referred on to a rheumatologist. On the day of seeing her she noted that I ticked (on the day) 3 boxes of the 4 required to make a definate diagnosis, but she thinks I have crossover of both Lupus (SLE) and Sjogens.....Really waiting further blood test results from this day to clarify her suspicions, but she has put me on plaquenil (been on it for only 12 days and already finding side effects.....alopecia, which I have had in occassional patches since childhood, but now have 2 patches already, a facial blotchy rough rash and extreme headaches, dizzy spells and nausea).
I do realise that diagnosis of Lupus can be a problem and I do believe my symptoms began about 4 yrs ago, are also triggered by over work and fluorescent lighting.....I also believe whilst self employed and working from home (the past couple of yrs up until Sept last yr), my symptoms were virtually non existent. This most recent flare began at the start of Nov last yr.
I also have Raynauds and photosensetivity, which both began around 4 yrs ago also.
Can you possibly tell me more about what it means (future/symptoms/complications) for the crossover condition of Lupus and Sjogens. I have read of both illnesses individually but would like to know if there is anything specific to having both illnesses.
I would also appreciate knowing if blood tests etc can become 'normal' when Lupus is not active, or if results always show abnormalities.
And if anyone has this crossover illness I would love to hear from you with any advice or general info.
Many thanks
Karen
