Ok I went to a rhuemotologist today for a diagnosis of Lupus from my Family Physician. After three positive ANA test and all the symptoms like stiffness, severe sensitivity to sunlight, chronic fatigue, pain, low immune system, rash, swelling joints, mouth ulcers this rhuemotologist tells me that I may not have Lupus but fibromyalsia. My mother, grandmother and sister all were miss diagnosed with Fibromyalsia and later diagnosed with Lupus and I do not want to go threw the years of the doctors trying to figure out what is wrong. The specialist said she will have to see what the blood test say. My question is if the levels are low does this mean I do not have Lupus and that it is Fibromyalsia or can you still have Lupus even if the blood test levels show low and what are normal SED levels and elevated SED levels?

I don't what to say only that I question having Lupus but that is what the doctors
believe I have by my Blood test I have all the symptoms that you mention so I am
still confused. I have been lucky not to have the Lupus that effects the organs.
I am going to go to another rhuemotologist for another opinion. I would rather be
diagnoised with fibromyalsia then Lupus. I guess they show the same in the blood
test. I know they are closely related. Both an autoimmune disease. I have had
this since 2005 and I feel doctors have different opinions on these autoimmune
disease. I am very positive about my life and I deal with what comes my way.
Good luck

I am in the same boat but with my 14 year old son. He had a positive ANA and we are waiting on more blood work. The specialist says he has Fibromyalsia which is great but I feel like he is wrong because my son has all but 2 symptoms of Lupus. He has been in chronic pain for almost 2 years. I am confused and very concerned. I am thinking about taking him to a children hopsital in Austin, TX for another opinion.

Lupus is not an autoimmune disease but many people get fibro also with lupus. If tests show lupus follow up on them or go to another Dr.

Get a second opinion. The ANA test is a standard to go by for Lupus. 10 million people have a positive ANA only 1 million have Lupus. (From Lupus Foundation) I do not have a positive ANA (5% don't) yet I have systemic lupus. You need to find a rheumie that specializes in Lupus. I would call the childrens hospital for a referral.
