I have tested positive for the Lupus Anticoagulant. Is Coumadin the only option for this? Are Plavix and Aggrenox options?

Thank-you,
Linda Romano

Lupus anticoagulant syndrome is associated with formation of clots in veins and arteries.
Venous clots are typically treated with blood thinners, like heparin and Coumadin.
Most people on blood thinners take oral medications called coumarins (Coumadin is one of the group) for long-term anticoagulation.
When patients with LAS have history of arterial clot, antiplatelets (they interfere with platelets in the blood, making it less sticky) medications like Plavix and Aggrenox, should be given for long term.
