The names Mike Bainter from central valley, I have been smoking since I was 15, and now I'm going on 27 I decided to conquer this addiction 2 days ago it has been hard just like all the other addictions I have conquered. Meth was almost as hard as quitting Marlboro Menthols, for me cigarettes were a gateway drug once I hit High school. Before that I was an all around athlete always winning gold medals in track, wrestling, basketball, and baseball. But after I started smoking I lost motivation to play sports past freshman year I was pretty popular too. Then I smoked weed socially and Meth killed my life, I went to juve, boot camp, county, then prison at 18. After I parolled I Hung out with the same friends and fell back into Meth until I met my Sons mother she got me away from Meth for 5 years but then she introduced me to ecstasy and in fresno everyone does E but she cheated on me and I left her and the house and the pool and the BMW and my son. So I left with the clothes on my back and the clothes in the back of my tahoe broke but iI was an Inventory Control Specialist so I would work in fresno and drive to Lemoore but the economy crashed and so did my life I lost my job and was introduced to unemployment for two years. So I said f it I'm going to party but needed friends to hang out with and I called my old friends and fell into Meth again but I met my love at a night club we fell in love went to Hawaii and all one the place she got hundreds of thousands of dollars from her deceased navy father but once she met me I helped her spend almost 500,000 dollars in three years. I would push her around and treat her horribly and I was always on Meth but she didn't know until she caught me in the bathroom 2 years ago but she let me keep on doing it even though I treated her bad while I was on it. It wasn't until one night when she told me she said, "baby I have always been here for you because I love you, I take care of you when your sick, I feed you when your Hungry and I always love you no matter what. What does this drug and your friends do for you?" After she said that my life flashed before my eyes and decided this is the worst and best drug I ever had it crushed my life but It brought me my son and my love Lucy who changed my life forever. I can proudly say I'm 26 I have a good job, I'm earning my Business Degree, I'm training to fight MMA again, I have my best friend back who also over came all addictions, I have been clean 4years from shrooms, ecstasy, and cocaine, 2years from bud, 1year from Meth, and 2 days from cigarettes which is the longest I've ever been content without it and I'm going strong. I just hope its not too late to be in my sons life.

Stop Smoking
I have been a smoker for 16 years it was awesome when I did, I felt like I was the poppular kid in school because I had smokes. I now can say that I have given them up for my kids and my husband but most of all MYSELF my lungs felt so full that everytime I took a deep breath it hurt I felt like y ribs were broke. I just quit on 4/18/2012 and it was hard for me to do that. I would also love to help anyone to quit smoking too this isn't easy at all to quit and I read a lot of comments and wow these make me want to stay healthier than ever. If you feel like you want someone to chat to please contact me. Good Luck I know you can do it stick with a plan and change your routine every morning ok.

Lung Cancer
We know that the survival rate from lung cancer is better the earlier it is caught. The 60% to 80% 5-year survival rate with stage 1 lung cancer drops to a saddening 10% with stage 4 disease, yet nearly half of people have progressed to this advanced stage at the time of diagnosis.

lungs detox
Hi, xKrazyx!
I am also quitted smoking near month ago and still have a few side effects like cravings, headaches sometimes and nightmares about cigarettes. But according to http://www.asmoking.com/194-quit-smoking-e ffects-timeline.html it is normal and expected things and it will go away in few months.

I also want to to clean my lungs after near 6 years of smoking cigarettes. In the net I have found what herbal laxative tea, carrot, lemon and grapefruit juice can be helpful.
Also potassium juice (it a powerful agent that will act as a cleansing tonic when ingested in liquid form) helping in lungs healing process. Also sauna and evening walks on fresh air is important.

Best Regards,
Helen

Recently quit!
Hey guys,
I have read this thread with great interest as i have recently quit smoking. That is now 1 week without a smoke after smoking 20/day for the last 15 years! Some people are saying that they feel great after quitting, some feel terrible. I feeling AWESOME!!! Sure, i am not breathing like an athlete, and i know i have a long way to go to get back to being fit and healthy, but boy am i determined! What was my main motivator for stopping? Well, 2 things really. Not being able to keep up with my 8 year old son when playing football, biking etc was the main factor but the cost was also a major issue! After only 1 week, i can bike with my son and not feel like my chest is about to explode!!

Stopping smoking is the way forward. I went cold turkey. No patches, no inhalators, no nothing. 100% willpower!!!

There is alot of talk about living longer, and that that is a good reason to quit smoking - i agree that living longer and being able to watch your family grow up and be around for them is fantastic.

But, let's say that you know you have 5 years left to live. Would you choose to spend those 5 years smoking or not? I smoked for 20 years and quit 4 and a half months ago, so i know the answer to this one!!

Imagine being able to sit in non smoking areas with your friends, having a meal, really enjoying and not needing to leave your kids to go have a cigarette.

Imagine waking up in the morning and feeling like you could jump out of bed from such an awesome nights rest, instead, if you smoke, you wake up and feel groggy, poisoned and exhausted cos your heart races all the time from the nicotine.

Imagine getting ready in the morning, brush your teeth, put clean clothes and deodorant on and you smell wonderful, and then you ruin it with a cigarette. And being a non smoker now, we can tell smokers from about 5 meters away. It smells disgusting.

Imagine breathing in and you can breathe in right to the bottom of your lungs, the air is cool as it goes in, and everytime you breathe it feels good, it makes you happy.

I would definitly not smoke, there are so many drawbacks, the only thing you are doing is keeping your nicotine addiction alive everytime you have another cigarette. You need to decide you are never going to smoke again, and get rid of it and never look back - don't try to quit, give yourself no option, and trust me, you will never smoke again - it really isn't that hard.

And if you only smoke a few cigarettes a week; well, you are still young, and in a few years, that addiction will catch up to you like it did to the rest of us (because i didn't start my smoking career on 20 smokes a day - i started on a few a week to for the first few years) and you too will be smoking a pack a day.

To those of you that missed my posting earlier I have LUNG CANCER........caused from smoking! I have learned so much from my journey. The biggest surprise I got was learning that if you smoke now or previously smoked, people that have quit years before are being diagnosed with lung cancer. In most cases by the time you are diagnosed with lung cancer it is usually at a later stage level. I was fortunate that my cancer had not spread out of my right lung to other organs. Obviously the sooner you quit, you lessen the chance of getting cancer. Once you have cancer...even if you're in remission, you will always have cancer.

App to stop smoking
Hey so I don't know if any of you guys have ever tried to use apps to quit smoking, but I found one that works great for me. A doctor I know actually just created it and I haven't smoked in over a week. I feel like my mind is completely reprogrammed. It's called "Stop Smoking Naturally" you can find it by searching "Turnt Apps" in the app store. I felt like I had to pay it forward by spreading the word because it worked so well for me! Good luck everyone!

Smoking
I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago using the e-cigarette and it was so easy. My mom smoked until her early 70's and was diagnosed with lung cancer when she was 86. She vomited blood only once before she passed but her breathing was very labored, I truly believe her other health issues had alot to do with her passing. I quit right before she was diagnosed and I am still worried sick and am almost positive I will end up with lung cancer because I smoked alot and I mean alot. I wish I had bought the e-cig earlier, it is awesome. I keep one with me at all times just in case I am tempted which I have never ever wanted one of those nasty, stinky things ever again.

Once you stop smoking, how long will it take for your body to heal. Lung
bronchial tubes leading to air sacs (alveoli) are beginning to relax, But by
year 13 after quitting, your risk of smoking induced tooth loss
