Hi everyone

I hope I can get some idea from you guys regarding my 65 year old mom's health condition.

My mom had an X-ray last July 2009 due to the following symptoms:

1. cough with chest pain
2. weak
3. lack of appetite but she can still eats

In the x-ray, they found a mass in the upper right lungs. Doctor gave antibiotics - clarithromycin and it seems to work and pain stopped until a few weeks ago when she started coughing with pains again. So we had another x-ray and found the mass has increased by 10mm and doctored ordered CT Scan. In the CT scan, they found smaller masses all in the lungs. Good this is the liver and other organs are clear.

Is this lung cancer or just simple infection? I am really really worried for my mom. She is not a smoker and nor a drinker. We will be getting the biopsy results by tuesday or wednesday next week. Is this cancer cells growing very fast in the span of 3 months? Can the doctor tell its cancer based on the CT scan with contrast? I am just really really worried. Hope you can help me answer my questions and pray all will be just simple infection.

Thanks in advance to all the replies.

Extremely eHealthy
More advanced exams like CT scan with contrast or biopsy, will most likely give the answer if the nodule is cancerous or not.
There is a possibility that these nodules, the big one and the small ones are result of lung tuberculosis infection.
Lung TB happens in elderly people, with poor nutrition and weak immune system and manifests with symptoms of cough, difficult breathing, night sweats, loss of apatite, weight loss, chest pains.

Hi MandsMs,

Thank you very much for your reply. I am just praying it will all turn out negative on the cancer. One thing that boggles me is the radiologist saying the lesion has grown in the span of 3 months. Is this possible? Can TB grow this quickly? I am thinking alot alot alot.

July size : 40mm x 30mm
Sep size: 45mm x 40mm

Two different radiologist read the chart though. Margin of error perhaps?

Thanks again!
