My 80 year old dad was diagnosed with pneumonia on 1-17-2011. Since that time he has been on 2 course of antiobiotics including a 7 day hospital stay. After many chest x rays and being told it was improving then worsening and then improving, he once again was told that it is worsening. The MD prescribed a third round of antibiotics for the next 10 days. If it isn't gone after this he suggested a scoping. My dad is concerned that he may have lung cancer. Should be wait and give this course of antibiotics a chance or should we insist on the scoping?

I would recommend that his doctors order a CT scan of the chest and perform bronchoscopy to rule-out cancer.
