I cute down my cigs from 20 to an average of 5/day, usually smoking 4 at work (smoking is allowed in teh offices) and 1 at night usually before I go to bed (so I dont smoke between 5pm-11pm). Anyway, I am planning to quit completly. My question that scares me a lot, I feel tired, and cant breath normally, If I go up the stairs its hard to speak after that, I feel my breath is very short, and a burn between my lungs, even now when I press that area between my lungs it hurts (burn kind off feeling)... This pain is causing me a lot of worried, I keep thinking of cancer, and these diseases... I went to a Doctor before like two weeks when I started having this feeling, he did an xray, looked at it, and told me there is nothing wrong, and that this will go away, but it keeps happening to me. What can I do ?? Please Help because I keep thinking about this, and cant sleep.. Question

quit
Just quit smoking.

When you quit, it hurts. Nicotine is like an anesthesia, when you stop, you feel pain in your lungs. Since you've cut back, that might be why. I *lightly* smoked about 10 packs for about 4 years. When I quit, it hurt, and it scared me. Nobody seems to discuss it, but it's very common to have lung pain after quitting. After about 3 weeks, it cleared up but it was scary to have that pain for so long.

But just quit. It's not that hard. You'll have mood swings, and you'll have a *desire* to smoke every now and then, but you ultimately decide what you do and you don't ever have to smoke. You just have to decide to give it up, and never forget, the reason you feel so lousy is from smoking. If you go back to smoking, you're right back to screwing up your body.

smoking and lung pain
I quit smoking 9 days ago thanks to Allen Carr. I have made several attempts over the past 25 years but this time it really is different and I mostly feel very calm and liberated. I can't recommend his book enough!! I too have had pain in my upper back since quitting and sometimes also in my lower back. This has only been for the past 3 days. It seems it is quite common from reading some blogs. Why is it never mentioned by the experts? Or so called experts as Allen would have said. If I still have the pain in a few days I will go and see a doctor.
