Q: Lump underneath left testicle

A couple of years ago, I noticed I had a lump underneath my left testicle. I told my parents, and they took me to the hospital. I am 15 now. And the doctor didn't tell me anything. I don't know why, or what he really said. All I remeber is him showing like a picture of a penis and something about how it's small then gets bigger. I have no idea what that has to do with it. But it has gotten bigger, and more painful, like when I put direct pressure on it or close my legs too far, causing the pain to go into my lower abdominal area. It's like directly under the left testicle. So I'm wondering if you can give me some advice if to worry, or not to worry. Because I don't have insurance so I can't go back to the doctors again.

There are a number of testicular health problems that can cause a tender lump or swelling within the scrotum. These include varicoceles (essentially, varicose veins around the testicle), hydroceles (a sac of fluid around the testicle), epididymitis, torsion of the testicular appendage, speramtocele (cyst of the testicle), and inguinal (groin) hernias. Torsion (or twisting) of the testicle can also occur, although this is generally associated with very severe pain, and eventual death of the testicle if the torsion is not relieved.

Finally, masses within the testicle must always be evaluated to rule-out testicular cancer. While most testicular tumors are relatively painless, discomfort can occur with larger tumors.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a specific diagnosis over the internet. Hopefully, you can find the means to see a physican (and, ideally, a Urologist) to examine your testicles. Most likely, an ultrasound of the scrotum will also be required to further assess this mass.
