Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

A lump under the left rib cage at your side that is painful can be a boil, an abscess (localized collection of pus), a neurofibroma (localized collection of nerve and fibrous tissue) or a hair follicle infection called folliculitis. The treatment will depend on the type of lump.

Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss these possibilities with your doctor once. Hope this helps. Take care!
