Q: Lump on temporal bone
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 30th, 2009
Hello. Recently (within the last year) I've noticed a a lump on my left temporal bone about an inch in diameter. It's a circular, knot like bump that does not move. It seems to be part of my bone. I don't remember having that before. Also I recently went to the O.D. doc for an eye check as I feel my eyes are tired more often and want to glaze over and stare all the time. She told me I have optic drusen (which was a first for me. unless other docs have noticed and not told me about it) The optic drusen was more pronounced in my left side which is the side of the lump of bone. She did the peripheral vision test and that came back normal. I'll be getting glasses for slight astigmatism so maybe that will completely correct the vision issue I'm having. I'm just concerned the two may be connected. Neuro wise all my neuro checks are intact as I've visited the doctor about 4 months ago (I failed to mention the bump to my doc at that time) Thanks for any input on what to do next.

It is very unlikely that your drusen are related to the lump on your head.

A number of conditions can cause lumps in the scalp or on the skull, the vast majority of which are benign in nature. Unfortunately, however, it is not possible to offer any specific diagnoses over the Internet. You should make an appointment with your physician for the specific purpose of having this lump evaluated.
