hiya I have a lump on left side of head , just above the ear, very painful about two days iv had it, its about 2in wide by 1in long haven't bang it or anything , so was wondering if anyone can help please getting a we bit worried , am 55 yrs old .

It could be a localized infection or possibly a cyst (sebaceous or epidermal inclusion). Usually, exostoses (bone spurs) do not hurt. And, of course, it could always be a tumor, though these are pretty rare.

The only way to know for sure what it is, would be to have it evaluated by a physician. Good luck.
