lump near adams apple

the other day i was scratching my neck and found a bump, maybe a little bigger than an ibuprofen tablet. it is located barely up and to the right from my adams apple. I am worried this might be cancer, i am 15 years old. Other thoughts crossed my mind that maybe its a lymph node or a cyst. i just had a physical a little over a month ago and i was fine when he checked my neck, you cant see it and kind of do have to feel around for it. it moves with my adams apple when ever i swallow but cannot be seen doing the drinking test while infront of a mirror. it is painless and im not sure how long ive had it, i was just sick a week ago (i dont know if that has anything to do with it) what do you think it is?

It might be a swollen lymph node, since you were sick so recently. I would give it another week and if it is still there, go back to your regular doctor and ask to be referred either to an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor or an Endocrinologist who has experience with thyroid disorders (most mainly focus on diabetes). A lot of people have what are called "nodules" on their thyroid that are totally benign, but some do turn out to be serious, so they need to investigate all of them that they find, just in case.

The specialist will want to do an ultrasound to see if the lump is on your thyroid or not. You'll also probably have blood tests, but those don't indicate anything one way or the other except whether you have a thyroid hormone imbalance.

I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to re-post.
