I just noticed a lump in my armpit yesterday. It is painful to touch and it is not too big, but I notice it when i lift my arm over my head. I don't know what to do because I have no insurance and I am getting married in less than a month. Will this bump go away or what should I do. It is in my left armpit. I am a 23 year old female. Please help

Painful lumps in the armpit area generally result from reactive lymph nodes (a benign condition). However, if these lumps fail to resolve over a period of 4 to 6 weeks, or if they continue to enlarge, then biopsy may become necessary to rule-out lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes), or metastatic cancer from other sites (in most cases, however, these malignant conditions are generally not painful, particularly during early stages of disease).

How does that happen? Maybe a better question, why does that happen?
