I found a lump. My mammo showed 2 enlarged lymph nodes, areas of suspicion on mammo and then my breast ultrasound shows definite mass. I am 50, have not been sick, pretty healthy actually. The mass on sono could be fibroadenoma right? But aren't I a little old for that? So shouldn't I go ahead and have a biopsy or lumpectomy since we see enlarged lymph nodes also? I see surgeon in 2 days for consult, I was hoping for some sort of insight before then. Some one told me they may say watch it for 6 months and then follow up. I don't think I could live with that wait, watch and hope for the best thing. Shouldn't it be just check it out now? I do have family history of breast cancer. (I wrote a few days ago and ask about heart pains (no one answered as of yet) because I wasn't sure about the pains I was having, after I wrote I found this lump and discovered that's where the pain originates, I can tell now.)

Extremely eHealthy
Fibroadenomas are less common in women your age, but, still possible, especially when the woman receive estrogen therapy.
They can cause pain, when growing large (more than three cm) and surgical removal is usually recommended.
MRI or biopsy are used when the ultrasound can't distinguish and diagnose a fibroadenoma or other type of breast lump.
Biopsy or excision of the lump is important (do not accept watchful waiting)

Best wishes!
