Q: lump below sternum

Last night while laying down, I put my hand across my chest just between my ribs right under my sternum and felt a lump. It didn't hurt when I touched it the first few times, but now sort of feels like a bruise when I touch or rub it. It is about the width of my finger and about 2 1/2 - 3 inches long. I can't tell if it goes upward under my sternum/ribs. i never felt this here before.

This could be the part of the sternum known as processus xiphoideus that you have noticed for the first time, or a growth (tumor) located at the same part.

See your physician!

lump in chest/abdomen below sternum
I'm sorry. I am new to this forum. I thought a doctor was supposed to read and answer these questions. How do you get a doctor to answer you? I see they have doctors answering some of them.
