Q: Lump At Base Of Scull ?

My 29 year old daughter came down to visit me with an odd complaint, she has a painful lump at the base of her scull. When she's upright she says the pain is kind of intermittent although painful. When she tries to sleep at night, it seems some positions are uncomfortable for her and she wakes up crying in pain. This has just started a few days ago and is no better or worse. We've tried going to emerg. last night but the wait time was horrendous of course, and I just brought her back home. I know she needs to see a doctor when she gets home, however, in the mean time I wondered if anyone could relate to this? The painful headache is definitely due to this odd lump and it's hard to figure out what it is and how to treat the pain until she gets medical help. We've iced it, put heat on it, alternated with those things, tried ibuprofen, nothing seems to help entirely at the moment.

has there been any recent trauma, or a time window that she simply cannot remember?

Since this is an old post now I'll just state that to this day we never did know what caused that. There was no trauma to her head, and it disappeared as suddenly as it appeared. The headaches are gone and the doctor gave her pain medication and that was all. We figure what ever it was could have been stress related, or some sort of cyst that went away on it's own, still a mystery. In the month of August she was finalizing wedding plans back then and we just chalk it up to to much stress between that and her job.
