Since September, 2008 I started waking up around 2:00-4:00 am each morning with tremendous lower back pain and stomach pain and it keeps hurting until I get out of bed around 5:15 am. To describe the pain, I've had surgeries in the past (ie. c-section, appendectomy, tonsilectomy) and the pain that I have been experiencing is like the pain I experienced after c-section & appendectomy when trying to get up after surgery. It is a tremendous pain to where I can't even slide an inch in bed and if I try to roll over it makes me yell out with so much pain, waking up my husband. This started out occurring only 3-4 times a week but not I have this every morning. During the daytime my lower back feels discomforted but not in severe pain like early morning hours. My stomach also feels nauseated at times too which may be coming from my back.

I've been to the doctor since November on many occasions and she is puzzled. My pap smear came back good. I've also had x-rays on lower back and they found a little arthritis bottom of my spine and I've also had ultrasound and pelvic ultrasound and they just found a small cyst on my left ovary stating that neither of these two could be causing that much pain. The dr. wants me to be reassessed with more tests...stating it could be something muscular skeletal. Dr. bills are adding up with no relief.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what it might be and/or what I can do to get some relief?

Thank you.

can you be more specific about the little bit of arthritis in your lower back doctors are dissmissive about these things but it could be an indication of long standing problems such as mechanical dysfunction of your spine or abnormal curveture being present also it depends on your age a small amount of degeneration is normal as we age but that does not mean degeneration is normal or that it will not cause problems

Waking up with back/stomach pain
This has been happening to me too since the start of the year! I have it every morning. I have seen a physiotherapist who can only suggest that its my mattress or my sleeping position. I've always slept the same way and haven't had a problem with the mattress before. Perhaps I also need to see my Doctor.

Waking up with back/stomach pain
this has been happening to me too. I wake at about 4 or 5 am every morning, with pain starting just above my belly button( which is also sore if I press it). It then spreads to my back - both sides of my rib cage, and them my lower back and hips, both sides. Sometimes it goes down my leg - usially yhe left leg. I curl into a ball and roll around and then sit up and curve forward, but none of these help. If I wait long enough it passes but usually I have to get up. If I urinate it helps a little bit. The pain does not continue once i am standing up.

i agree with rollar.. and for some relief, your doctor should prescribe you something if you ask him. If not, there are moderate pain pills you can get otc, or online at myrxonline.us , or drugstore.com... one of those places
