Just wondering if any one has any information or a similar problem with their child. My sons lips turned purple then his arms hand and feet. It lasted about 20 or so minutes, he wasn't cold to the touch. He has been to his doctor and she said to keep and eye on him and come back if he happened to do it again. She wasn't sure why his lips went purple but said that it was normal for a babys arm and legs to go purple. Just trying to figure things out. Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

If the baby seems to be ok and happy other than this, then he should be fine.

Much of the babies energy is focused on things such as digestion which draws the blood to the babies core, causing the extremities to become purple. As his circulatory system matures it should go away. You can try massage, which is always helpful with or without the change in color.

If the color changes are accompanied by loss of warmth or swelling, call your doctor right away.

I had my son do the same thing except when he was sleeping. I've never been so scared in my life however we took him to our doctor whom is the best doctor i've ever had and takes every little thing very seriously. She said it had to do with blood flow and veins. some babies have smaller veins which cause them to look blue at times. She said a couple other things but I can not remember exactly but yea it was nothing to be overly worried about!! Hope this helps.

I am actually having a similar problems with my 10 month old. He turns purple from his nose to the tips of his toes. He does this any were between one to 3 times a week and sometimes twice in a day. No one I have found can dignose it. They have ran several test and have found nothing. He was born with a heart condition but it has since checked out fine. Anyone heard of anything like this or have any suggestions? The doctors are shocked by the pictures I have taken when he does this. The purple spells last any were from a hour to three hours.
