Hi
I have been having lower abdominal pains for the past 6 months now, worse on my period then around 2 weeks after my period also. I have recently been to see my gyn. I think the symptoms, irregular periods and spotting, UTI during my periods, pain after sex and some irregular bowl movements around my periods suggest from what I have read endometriosis which my mum also had. I also have cysts on my ovaries. I have the copper coil atm and my doctor has told me to go and get the mirena instead to hopefully ease my pains. Knowing the pain I went through getting the IUD inserted, would it be better to get the implant instead, or should I give the mirena a chance first?

Thanks

Mirena worked wonders for me in easing the pain - have the current IUD taken out under a mild sedative if you have some fears, and the Mirena can be inserted at that time

I am 25 now, but at 24 had to have a full hysterectomy because of the Mirena. Not only did I have severe endometriosis but I had gotten cysts on my ovaries. Not to mention that one of those cysts had grown over a vein and burst causing internal bleeding and immediate hospitalization along with emergency surgery. If I had waited another 24 hours, my doctor said I would have gone in to shock and was very close to dying. I personally would like to know if the mirena was the true cause and I say this because NONE of these problems started until after I had the IUD Mirena inserted. so if you are considering this form of contraception, please, proceed with caution and ask a lot of questions. good luck
