My son has recently gotten a CBC report with his white blood count at a ANC of 1290. The pediatrician does not know what is contributing to this and offered a referral to a hematologist. His MCV value is 67 and he has been identified as having alpha Thalassemia, but his MCH value is 20.9. I have requested follow up blood work in a month to confirm a low white blood count. Any opinions of possible causes?
