Q: Low white blood cell count

My sister has been feeling sick and weak for a few weeks. She went for a blood test and it came back normal! Relief!

A week later, the doctor calls back to say that he was going through her results and her WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT is SLIGHTLY low. He told her to come back in 1 month to re-test.

I am very worried - what could this mean?
Any help would be appreciated!!

White blood cells are a major component of the body's immune system. A low number of WBCs is called leukopenia. Low white blood cell count may include (but are not limited to):

* Bone marrow failure (for example, due to infection, tumor, or abnormal scarring)
* Collagen-vascular diseases (such as lupus erythematosus)
* Disease of the liver or spleen
* Radiation

You'll have to wait to see if the count returns to normal, or not. Then, the doctor can better diagnose any possible problems.
