I am new to this forum. We are trying to
have a baby from last 8 months. Last month
we also did semen analysis and the sperm
count was low. Also the motility wasn't
that good. We are going to see an
Urologist in next week. But right now we
have no idea about whats in store for us.
I need to know what are the next steps or
treatments now for getting pregnant.
Thanks!!!javascript:emoticon('')

Good luck with that. Is this due to
Vasectomy Reversal? I hope that you find
that you are not stuck with IVF as the
only solution. But obviously you will
have to see a fertility specialist.

low sperm count Posted: 06-10-08 22:19pm
I am a 26 year old woman and my husband is
25 and we have been going through the same
thing. We are actually just at the light
at the end of the tunnell. I had a
miscarriage in January and my husband and
I tried again for three months after that
and with no luck I asked my husband to
have a semen analysis done out of
curiosity. Sure enough his sperm count
was low and his morphology and motility
were very low at 5 %; which means we had a
5% chance of ever getting pregnant. So we
went to a Urologist and we found out that
he had something called a varicocele.
This is a bunch of varicose veins( also
known to be described as a sack of worms-
they say that is what it feels like of you
feel your scrotum)which runs from your
abdomen to your scrotum. This is actually
found to be the cause of about70% of
infertile couples problem. It is
something that can either be fixed
surgically having an 85% success rate or
radiographic embilization having a 75%
success rate. My husband and I opted for
the radiographic procedure. It is less
invasive and has less of a recovery
period. We actually just got the results
today to let us know it it worked(you have
to do another semen analysis 1 month after
procedure check). We had amazing results
showing that his count went from under 20
million to now over 45 million viable
sperm. His morphology and motility used
to be at 5 % and now they are both at over
75%. So this procedure was a complete
success. The best thing for you two to do
is research Varicocele online, there is a
lot of literature. What we learned to
check for before your appointment to ease
your mind a little bit is to do a self
examination yourself to see if your feel
the varicosities. We were told and also
read that you should feel the scrotum
gently feeling around to see if it feels
like a "sack of worms". As silly as that
sounds it is so true. It should feel like
stringy worms in between your fingers and
i may also feel very warm. Well good luck
to you and I hope this was helpful
information.
