Hello,

I am a 25 yo male formly active in sports. I have sharp pain originating in the SI joint area(i think) and it swaps sides. I have been to the physical thereapist, chiropracter, and had MRI, and X-rays. The pain will leave for a few months then return, but over the past few months I have not been able to fully recover before the pain returns again. Basically, the pain is returning more frequently. I have difficulty getting out of bed, tieing my shoes, walking(pain radiates down the back of the leg only to the knee, the lower leg feels different too though). I have been told it is either SI joint subluxation, piriformis syndrome, or something else. I perform some stretching and PT exercises which seems to help. I am depressed due to my inability to do anything active and afraid this problem may not allow me to work as a general dentist due to the constant bending over patients.

Questions
1. Any suggestions for exercises, stretches, strategy, or specialists to visit?
2. Do SI joint injections works(anyone with experience)?
3. Are there special chairs for people who sit at work all day? What about SI joint belts?

Any other advise/experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Mazen

You say you have had x-rays, MRI, done physical therapy and used a chiropractor.

Have you been evaluated by a spine specialist with an MD after his/her hame?

You don't mention an actual diagnosis either, just that it might be one thing or another.

That is not a diagnosis, it's an excuse for an inability to diagnose what is going on with your spine because you haven't been properly diagnosed.

I suggest you forget about what you have been doing for treatment and get yourself to a spine specialist.

You need to see either and orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines and get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

You need to bring the MRI and x-rays that you have already had with you, as well as the physical therapy reports from the physical therapist that you where seeing.

You may need a new MRI done and maybe some x-rays as well.

Also, it is not a good idea to try any exercises or stretches other than what your physical therapist has given you. Doing anything more than that could, potentially, worsen your spine problems.

Good luck and get to a spine specialist as soon as you can.

Sacroiliac Exercise
There is a video on you tube which shows a guy demonstating 3 exercises to relieve SI Pain. They wont allow me to post a link here so the video is by a user called bigmikemo. check out both his videos in order. I did this yesterday and the pain i had reduced by 70% in the space of the time it took me to do them.. about a minute! I also woke up this morning without the usual deep intense pain and feel that im walking much more easier today.. try it!
