Q: Lost leg hair
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 28th, 2009
About five weeks ago I lost the hair on my left side of my calf of my left leg from ankle to knee. The first time i noticed was when I had a shooting pain in my left toe. Since then the hair has started to grow back except for a small area above my left ankle. This area has swelled in the last week and is aggravated(dull ache) when I walk for a distance (1/2 mile) or stand for a long time (20 min). There is no sharp pain. When I lie down there is no pain. My doctor seems unconcerned after a thorough blood test ruling out diabetes He suggests possible nerve or muscle irriatation.

Any advice?

According to the data you provided, you might be experiencing inflammation and consecutive swelling of some of the bursa of the ankle. The pain might be caused by the pressure the bursa puts on a nerve in the vicinity.
You might want to visit an orthopedist to confirm or to rule out the possible bursitis. He might want to have additional tests to find the reason for the bursitis.
