Q: Loss of mental capabilities

My mother-in-law, age 84, recently had a heart attack and then a stint placed in one of her arteries. The doctor said "he had to give her a lot of dope" to calm her enough for the procedure. Since the procedure she can no longer speak except to mumble and her mental capabilities have deteriorated. Before the heart attack and procedure she was mentally alert and spoke clearly and intelligently. They have tested and say she did not have a stroke. We are at a loss as to what happened and how to proceed. Question

Loss of Mental capabilities after Heart Attack
All we know is they had to give her an "large" amount of drugs to calm her for the procedure.
