My periods stopped in Sept 08 and I wondered if you had any advice on how to restart them and if there are any hormonal supplements available.
I have had regular as clockwork periods since I was 12 (I'm 30 now) even when coming on and off the pill a couple of times. In Sept 08 I ran out of Thyroxine ( I have an underactive Thyroid) and have also lost about 21 lbs since August 08. I have been to my local Dr's and one advises that it was my Thyroid levels which stopped my periods and my weight loss which keeps them away. He advises that I get my BMI from 18.5 up to 19/20. The other Dr believes it is coming off the pill last August, which I was on for 2 1/2 yrs, which is stopping them restarting. We are currently trying to concieve hence me asking what I can do to help me to begin ovulating again. I dont want my worry that I'm not to stop my periods from restarting due to stress!
Any advice would be wonderful!
Kind regards
S

It seems likely that both doctors were right.
The disturbance of the thyroxin accompanied with weight loss might lead to loss of menstrual periods.

In many cases, it takes time for the menstrual period to recover after taking birth control pills that contain female sex hormones. You might want to have laboratory sex hormone tests. If the results show altered sex hormones, then your doctor or gynecologist might recommend adequate hormones to restore your periods.
