Q: Loss of control left side of face

Previous to a wisdom tooth extraction, everything was perfectly normal. My face was absolutely fine, my vision excellent and my hearing very well tuned (I work in the field of sound technology, and my hearing is of vast importance).

After the tooth extraction which involved making an incision into the bone on the lower left, and relatively easy removal of both on the right side, my jaw was incredibly stiff and painful. There was hardly any pain, if any at all from the sites of the teeth, just exceptional pain in all the muscles around the jaw. After a few weeks the pain slowly began to subside but the jaw was still stiff. I opened my mouth nice and wide one morning during a yawn and there was a loud popping sound accompanied by a lot of pain on the left side. About 30 seconds later as I was looking in the mirror, my left eye suddenly diverged to the left and I had intense double vision. Over the next couple of weeks I started to lose muscular control of my left eyebrow, left cheek and the sensation around my lips. Now 4 months on, my hearing has begun to deteriorate and my eye and face are no better.

I have almost constant twitching and tingling in any or all areas of the left side of face, and I've seen multiple doctors now who range from suggesting I'm making it up, to plain baffled as to what's wrong.

I've seen various optometrists, a maxillofacial specialist, who saw me for barely five minutes declaring my jaw fine, having not even examined it, and today a neurologist, who has suggested an MRI scan, while also suggesting we "may never find out what it is". Brilliant.

I really need some help, this is destroying my life. I have no focusing control of my left eye, which makes me feel spaced out and strange, and my hearing is ruining my ability to do my job properly. My senses make me feel nauseaus, and I hate being in large crowds of people as it makes me feel confused, dazed, and very weird indeed. Previously, I would be out 4 nights a week, socialising every day, very happy go lucky and generally a fun and interesting person to be around. Now, I stay in, feel very lethargic, my blood pressure is up, and it's all having a detrimetnal psychological effect on me. Not a happy bunny!

Could anyone suggest what they think might be wrong. I just need some pointers so I have some more ammunition for my doctors, who seem completely bewildered by my symptoms.

Many thanks
