Q: loss of circulation with gangreen

My husband developed gangrene in his toes a month ago. He was put on plavix and an antibiotic. He has since had every test available for circulation and there are no obstructions, clots or restrictions. His feet will have a good pulse one day and none the next, and the bruising and pain start all over.He is only 41, he doesnot have diabetes, he is hypothyroid and a smoker. The vascular surgeon said it had nothing to do with smoking, not sure I agree. They can't find the reason, I'm at my wits end because it just doesn't make sense. Can this be from a tick bite back in the fall? Does anyone have any advice on any possible causes? We are getting desperate to find out before he loses his toes or feet. Oh yes, he also has swollen feet and ankles with red dots around them. Please help, Thank you
