Hi. I am 16 years old and I am losing my vision rapidly. I currently have a (- 8 ) prescription and glasses are becoming thicker. I know that it is nearly impossible to reverse this but what can I do to prevent vision loss?

what you can do
Hi,

I have -5 diopters of myopia. I currently do not wear my glasses, even for driving. I have never worn contact lenses.

To go to the point: you can control your vision loss, and you can even improve your vision, although it takes work.

There is a whole field of eye improvement that is not recognized by eye doctors, so they won't tell you about it. I have done the e-mail course on Visions of Joy, which is basically several e-mails on vision improvement and you can ask Joy questions and tell her your progress. I have talked to her on the phone before and she is very knowledgable and has healed herself of her own myopia.

Another good resource is Meir Schneider. I heartily recommend his book "Self-Healing: My Life and Vision". It is extremely motivating to read about someone who was born legally blind and who can now drive a car without glasses. He also has programs available on Amazon.

I wish you luck. Try to limit your computer time and reading time and just let your eyes have a break. People take their eyes for granted. Learn to cherish your eyes and they will reward you with clear sight.

When I read also...should I take off my glasses?

I would need to put the book about 7 inches from my face..

reading
You should endeavor to read without your glasses. If you have myopia, it is actually bad to read without glasses on, for two reasons 1) you create psychological dependence on reading with glasses and 2) your eyeball is already better suited to reading up close (as a myope), by reading with glasses, you weaken this ability.

Also, take relaxation breaks. Read for a period of time, then put the book down, close your eyes, and just feel the darkness. If you have perfect vision the darkness is a beautiful shimmering blackness, like in a cave. If you have imperfect vision you may see lots of gray, flashing lights and possibly different colors. Try to become awareness of how your eyes are feeling at that very moment. If you work with your eyes while they are closed, they will begin to relax and you can feel it in your eyes. Think of happy memories. Think of the darkest blackness you can think of. Use your imagination. Imagination and vision and inexplicably linked.

Meir Schneider's book especially has a great description of what the eyes do when they are letting go of all of the accumulated tension of wearing glasses and using them improperly.

Your sincerely,
David
