Well that's really what happens in panic disorder- after your first attack, other ones happen simply because you're afraid of having an attack, and it gets worse and worse from there.

What you can do- when you start to feel like you might get an attack (or even just worrying about having an attack) practice some relaxation strategies, whatever makes you calm (bubble bath, meditating, etc) and calm yourself down. Keep doing this every time you even think about an attack- eventually, your body won't have a panic reaction every time you think about having an attack. Better yet, bring on the symptoms of an attack yourself (if your heart gets racy during attacks, do jumping jacks until your heart beat gets up) and then work on relaxing again. The idea is to connect the feeling of an attack with the physical sensation of being calm and relaxed. Does that make sense?

If you aren't able to do this on your own, (which may be the case) a psychologist could help you (they're pretty good at it!). It's just cbt. It would be best to find a psychologist who has experience/specializes in anxiety or cbt (cognitive behavioral therapy).

anxiety , panic attacks ,stress
There is a cure,it is natural and you must do your part. Try real hard to eat less sugary foods as it makes it worse.Eat whole grains ,like oats, brown rice, whole wheat, millet, barley nuts, seeds and so on .Lots of dark green leafy veggies don't forget all the colors, and fresh fruits ,beans, legumes, try to get organically grown as much as possible.Avoid "processed" foods and FAST FOODS.If you do eat meats try to make sure it is organic, free range, hormone free. Take a food based multi-vitamin.Eat a plant based diet like your grandparents did.Look it took time to get in this state of feeling like your dying, having a heart attack, dizziness, can't drive,or go far from home and so on.I know I was there too. I am now back to all the things I love. You can get over this, there is HOPE.Get outside, walk barefoot on grass, Vitamin D get sun 15 mins for fair skin 1 hour or more for darker, each day and breath. Turn off the T.V. put on some music or enjoy the silence,it is golden. I know ,you can help yourself, then God will help you if you ask and do your part.Avoid stressful situations,as much as possible.I chose to use all herbal and homepathic medicines, alternative as is heals,Oregeno Oil is wonderful if your feeling like your coming down with a fuel or cold,it kills the virus. Only use vitamin E that is natural D alpha not DL-alpha,think L is for losers, it is toxic.Goldenseal is a wonderful. Educate yourself.........,if your reading this look info. up on the computer. Get a book.A wonderful book my Mom got at a garage sale for 25 cents is Panic To Power, by Lucinda Basset. It helped to let me know I was not alone, and the info. was great. It took you some time for you to get in this STATE,I promise you ,you can get out of it alot faster.Look I can't get you to do anything unless you want,so if you want to heal yourself, educate yourself, knowledge is power. There is nothing others can do for you unless you ask, you have to take the step. Do not give up.Ask for help, tell people you will be shocked how many have had this sinking dying, heart attack can not breath feeling. We are, each day dealing with stressful situations,if you have a proper diet of wholesome foods it helps your body cope, as it had the proper fuel to deal with it.We are in a place where we are subjected to all sorts of chemicals in our daily life,we need to know what we are putting on and into our bodies and homes.Live simple, the finest things in life are still free,go for a walk in nature, bond with the earth again love more hate less. As for me, I try my best to do my part and I thank Jesus for showing the way, and give all up to God........Aloha, Euphemia

u can, i strongly believe, talk yourself into having anxiety. not on purpose... it's a legitimate fear. try to tell yourself when you have these thoughts, no i feel afraid of having anxiety. this doesn't mean to ignore it completely. words/thoughts/actions are powerful. hope this helps. please keep us posted!

PM me anytime.... i'm rarely on anxiety topic but have had it for my entire adult life. lots of therapy Wink

Yeah, that's kind've what cbt helps with- changing your thought patterns and behavior to train yourself not to react with anxiety.

mchogan.. how do u feel most of the time? do you feel out of yourself? hard to concentrate? feel as though your thoughts are in the back of your mind and can't think clearly? lost your interests in things you used to love doing?
This is how I'm feeling and I told my parents after about a month of torture. My mother understands and sais she went through the same thing when she was in her early twenties.... She told me that it is simply stress and that it will 100% be cured with time, patience and self-realisation and acknowledgement. Taking medications every once in a while might help, and doesn't mean your crazy.
Tell your parents about what you're feeling, because they might have went through the same process, since anxiety and stress can be genetic.... it can't do anything but help. One thing I don't have, and I think many people with anxiety lack aswell, is the patience to overcome the problems we go through in life. Time heals all wounds...
Hope I helped.
