Q: long period - premenopause symptom ?

I am on the end of the 3rd week of having my period. It is normal, then goes quite heavy with lots of blood clots, goes to almost nothing, for about 4 hours, then right back to having my period again. Is this premenopause?

Hi,
If you don't mind, may I ask how old you are? When I was in my forties I had long, heavy periods and I began to use a natural progesterone cream and they became lighter and more normal. The symptoms you have show you have a hormone imbalance and sometimes a bit more progesterone is needed to regulate cycles. If you do some research you can find information on the subject and see if it might be a solution for you.

You should see your doctor. It could be a fibrous uterine tumor. They are benign but will result in long periods. This will lead to anemia and can become serious. Any prolonged and heavy bleeding needs to be investigated by your doctor.

Hello everyone, I am new here, but wanted to say this is exactly what Im experiencing.
I have normal periods all of my life.
Although at some point maybe after my third child, I always bleed heavy and with huge clots of blood.
I had my 4th child in 2001, and resumed the heavy periods.
For me this was normal.
I will be 48 in November.
I had a normal period in August, but no period in September.
I started spotting on October 5 and then it just gradually got a bit heavier each day.
Six days into it, I woke to use the bathroom and had the worst pain, it felt like cramps, but like 100 times worse.
It lasted for about 10 minutes, I took some Tylenol and then it went away.
Ive felt fine since October 10th, but I am still bleeding, and today is the 14th.
I do have a doctor appt in the morning with my general practice Dr., but she is a woman, so that helps my state of mind some.
I am just frightened, because Ive never had such drama over a 'period'.
I will post what happens at the doctor on here tommorrow.
Im just glad that I found a place where I dont seem 'Out of the Norm' and someone shares my same symptoms~
Thanks you guys!

heavy periods
Hi everyone I am 44 and am going through the last phase of menopause. I have had all the blood work which includes the thyroid testing etc. I am 100o/o healthy. I have been through it all, night sweats, mood swings, panic attacks, heart palpitations etc. Now, I'm bleeding through everything. I have heard that this is normal, don't worry. One thing to take into consideration is that it is not normal if you become anemic. So, for all who are going through this, take iron supplements, and make sure that you have plenty of fluids. Here's to all of us fabulous women, life goes on when it's over, some of us are even more happier knowing that there is gold at the end of this rainbow..

Perimenopausal?
I am having the same thing. I am 48 and work out alot and am in good shape. I was having some irregular periods about a year and a half ago and some very heavy ones, not normal for me. To stop the bleeding, my Dr. put me on hormones for 3 days and then a low dose pill. After about 4 months everything seems normal, but I didn't like taking the pill, so she switched me to the Novoring. It was okay, but still I don't like taking birth control. After getting off the novoring, I have one period closer to another one that was very short and then went almost 5 months without a period. Twelve days ago I started again but it was very short and light for 3 days, went 4 days with nothing, thinking I was done and then I started my period again and it is now very heavy. This is going on the 5th day of this. Now I am considering calling my Doctor, but I don't want to get on all the hormones again. I have been tested and my hormones are low and she is sure I am going to menopause. I wanted to try the cream, but all she would recommend is Prempro, which I have heard bad things about. I will call her today and see if she will give me the cream now. I will update what happens. Nancy F.

I am going through the same thing right now too. I am 47 and cant lose any weight for the forst time in my life and having a period for over a week! If it is a hormone imballance I don't want to take any drugs. I would rather address the issue in a more homeopathic way. Any suggestions?
