Hi,
If you don't mind, may I ask how old you are? When I was in my forties I had long, heavy periods and I began to use a natural progesterone cream and they became lighter and more normal. The symptoms you have show you have a hormone imbalance and sometimes a bit more progesterone is needed to regulate cycles. If you do some research you can find information on the subject and see if it might be a solution for you.

Extremely eHealthy
You should see your doctor. It could be a fibrous uterine tumor. They are benign but will result in long periods. This will lead to anemia and can become serious. Any prolonged and heavy bleeding needs to be investigated by your doctor.

Hello everyone, I am new here, but wanted to say this is exactly what Im experiencing.
I have normal periods all of my life.
Although at some point maybe after my third child, I always bleed heavy and with huge clots of blood.
I had my 4th child in 2001, and resumed the heavy periods.
For me this was normal.
I will be 48 in November.
I had a normal period in August, but no period in September.
I started spotting on October 5 and then it just gradually got a bit heavier each day.
Six days into it, I woke to use the bathroom and had the worst pain, it felt like cramps, but like 100 times worse.
It lasted for about 10 minutes, I took some Tylenol and then it went away.
Ive felt fine since October 10th, but I am still bleeding, and today is the 14th.
I do have a doctor appt in the morning with my general practice Dr., but she is a woman, so that helps my state of mind some.
I am just frightened, because Ive never had such drama over a 'period'.
I will post what happens at the doctor on here tommorrow.
Im just glad that I found a place where I dont seem 'Out of the Norm' and someone shares my same symptoms~
Thanks you guys!

heavy periods
Hi everyone I am 44 and am going through the last phase of menopause. I have had all the blood work which includes the thyroid testing etc. I am 100o/o healthy. I have been through it all, night sweats, mood swings, panic attacks, heart palpitations etc. Now, I'm bleeding through everything. I have heard that this is normal, don't worry. One thing to take into consideration is that it is not normal if you become anemic. So, for all who are going through this, take iron supplements, and make sure that you have plenty of fluids. Here's to all of us fabulous women, life goes on when it's over, some of us are even more happier knowing that there is gold at the end of this rainbow..

Perimenopausal?
I am having the same thing. I am 48 and work out alot and am in good shape. I was having some irregular periods about a year and a half ago and some very heavy ones, not normal for me. To stop the bleeding, my Dr. put me on hormones for 3 days and then a low dose pill. After about 4 months everything seems normal, but I didn't like taking the pill, so she switched me to the Novoring. It was okay, but still I don't like taking birth control. After getting off the novoring, I have one period closer to another one that was very short and then went almost 5 months without a period. Twelve days ago I started again but it was very short and light for 3 days, went 4 days with nothing, thinking I was done and then I started my period again and it is now very heavy. This is going on the 5th day of this. Now I am considering calling my Doctor, but I don't want to get on all the hormones again. I have been tested and my hormones are low and she is sure I am going to menopause. I wanted to try the cream, but all she would recommend is Prempro, which I have heard bad things about. I will call her today and see if she will give me the cream now. I will update what happens. Nancy F.

I am going through the same thing right now too. I am 47 and cant lose any weight for the forst time in my life and having a period for over a week! If it is a hormone imballance I don't want to take any drugs. I would rather address the issue in a more homeopathic way. Any suggestions?

Irregular periods – shorter, lighter or heavier periods, flooding, and/or phantom periods (you experience all the symptoms you’re accustomed to having before you menstruate — but no period comes). This is a common during perimenopause before a woman’s period actually stops.

I am 46 and have been having irregular periods for over a year now. I had sleepless nights but put it down to the stress at home as my hubby is now not at work and has changed the home life completely (long story). I fall asleep during the day now and never done this. Even if i have had a good nights sleep. Memory not the same. I have high cholestral, only slightly though. I did not realise that there were phases to menapause. Can anyone tell me a good sight that can give me lots of info on it, and how long it takes as i do feel lathargic and down. I did not know there were ways to relieve symptoms or even how the doctor would know lol, i'm sorry i must seem rather thick.

thanks

long periods
I''ve been having my period for over a month now. Sometimes it seems to be getting lighter, as though it''s going to end, but then it never does. Then about a week ago it got really heavy like a normal period of mine and so i thought maybe I''d get back on track after this, but no, it''s still hanging on. I have been very tired and think i need some extra iron. I exercise regularly running 4 to 5 days a week and my energy and speed are terrible. I will persist though. I figured it was just premenopause so i''m not going to the doctor. i don''t want hormones and have already been diagnosed with uterine fibroids so i''m trying to watch my diet more and go to bed earlier. hang in there ladies. I just turned 46 and I think I''m in for a bumpy ride but frankly, i''m looking forward to not having to worry about being fertile anymore. Ha!

Long periods - perimenopause?
Ok, so I don''t feel alone and as if there''s something wrong with me! 2 years ago, after an overly long period, my flake of a dr. back then made me have an ultrasound, then a biopsy. Came back I have a thick uterus, but nothing wrong. I also have extreme headaches about the 3rd or 4th day of my period. I hear those are also typical. What surprises me is I''ve asked my GP, my GYN, and my blood dr (I have a high iron condition) if my headaches could be related to hormones/pre-menopause. They all say, "no". How ludicrous is that for an answer, when I have talked to so many women who have them or had them at this stage in their lives! I was going to make an appt. with my GYN, but now I think I''ll just put this down to peri-menopause.
Thanks.

Hi,Im new! I found out over a year ago I was going through premature menopause..at age 39. I have a 4 yr old so was quite suprised. The only symptoms I had was not being able to sleep.. if I got more than 3 hrs I was lucky and sometimes being hot and clammy. I missed only 1 period and the young doctor was reluctant to give me a hormone test.but the lack of sleep was taking its toll I insisted.Hence the result and because of the measure of hormone levels I was at the top end so quite poss had been going through it a while. Im now on hrt.which i have no problms with at all.Its a duet so I still have a monthly bleed. I will however come of it around the time I would be expected to hit meopause age.
Regards

peri menopause
Hi everyone. I have been going through all the symptoms above since I was 36. I turn 46 next week. Periods that never end then stop, night sweats, anxiety etc. I have had numerous tests, tried the birth control, natural progesterone, Lupron, healthy diet, exercise etc nothing seems to make a difference. I am an otherwise healthy, active woman. I am going to ride it out until it finally ends. I am tired of all the poking and prodding with no answers. Hang in there ladies, there is light at the end of the tunnel, there has to be Smile

Pre menopause
I need some help!! I have been having night sweats and hot flashes. I was instructed to stop my birth control that I was taking in April. So I have been birth control free this whole time. I have been on my period since the first of this month. I just had a hot flash with lots of sweating while in the air conditioning. I am 27 years old. The doctors do not know what is wrong with me. I am seeing a specialist but they only tested my hormone levels so far. My estrogen was low but the doctor told me I was not going through menopause. With the symptoms I am having, I would beg to differ. Does anyone have any suggestions?
