Q: Long irregular periods
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 10th, 2009
I got off birth control nine months ago. Since then, my "normal" period has been to spot for 7 days, bleed for 7 days, then ovulate/not bleed for 10 to 12 days. Since my D&C in December, I have only bled heavily for about a week. However, I have been spotting and cramping constantly. Over the past six weeks, I have had to wear a maxi pad/tampax for four weeks. On the rare occasion I am not bleeding, intercourse will make me bleed as well. My doctor is not concerned, but I am tired of feeling bad. What tests should I ask for? Do you have any ideas? I am on medication for low thyroid, but otherwise healthy. Blood tests (including thyroid and progesterone) were done in November, and everything was within range. Thanks for the help.

You may need to repeat the same tests (vaginal examination, hormonal analyses, ultrasound and PAP) you had done before the curettage was done. You could also check your blood coagulation status.
