Q: long, dark period normal?

My normal periods are about six weeks apart. At the time when I was expecting my period, I had a dark brown discharge that I think may be old blood. Twice there has been some very light red spotting, but mostly it is very dark. I'm not on birth control, but I also know that I am not pregnant. This has been lasting for eleven days now, when my normal period is only around 6. Is this just a normal change?

Hi Daisy and welcome to ehealth....

My question would be are you getting close to the menopause age?....Sometimes this can make our periods go haywire....

If you are concerned about it I would see the doctor to make yourself feel better....

Take care,
Caroline

Honey, then I would check it out...Periods can be very irregular as you grow up but I think if this concerned me I would go and have it checked out...Sometimes stress of exams and things can cause irregular periods but with me not being an expert along these lines maybe you could ask the doctor here or visit your family doctor...

Good luck.....

Thanks for the help,
I've just been through a week of really tough exams and a lot of stress so that is definitely an option. I made an appointment to go to my first doctor appointment, but they couldn't get me in for another three weeks and I'm starting to get nervous.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season...

Did you ever check up on it? And also, did your period go back to normal afterward or is it going to stay like this?
