Q: Local skin inflammation
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 20th, 2009
A lump (not poking out of the skin) located on the outside of my vagina. Itchiness occurs as well as white pubic hairs surrounding the lump. Sometimes it has a burning sensation. Please tell me what this is. I'm praying that its not a type of cancer.

It is hard to say what the lump is without a physical exam. The data is not enough for a definitive diagnosis to be given, but the lump might be caused by a local skin inflammation. The dimensions of the lump in that case are supposed to be up to one centimeter. You might want to try over-the-counter anti-inflammatory creams for topical use. If the lump still persists after several weeks, or the surrounding skin becomes reddish or hot and painful, then you might want to see your family doctor for further diagnosis and treatment.
