How do you cope? What tips can you share
with other sufferers? What has worked for
you (therapy, medication, etc)?
What tips would you give friends or loved
ones of people who suffer from
schizophrenia?

I simplified my life a lot. Complexity
makes me anxious and tired. I try not to
walk around in pyjamas and hoodies, etc.
but wear something presentable even though
I don't work. This makes me feel sharper.
Zen Buddhism has helped in neutralizing
the demons. Whenever it gets hairy I light
up a few candles in front of the Buddha
and think of Zen things, such as
monasteries, meditation spaces, grey
colours and calmness. I read up on Zen and
try to meditate. I try not to go to the
hospital to see my psych too often, but
about twice a year. I know that he can't
help me more than he has already, and the
trip to the hospital is a very anxious
experience. I am thankful for having my
own home and see the positive aspects of
that fact and that experience, so I'm not
complaining all the time. I keep in touch
with people that understand me and my
situation. As to other tips, I discourage
trying to diagnose yourself on the
internet. If you think something's wrong
go seek a professional opinion. The
internet can then serve as a support
system for discussion and such things.

Wonderful post and advice as Georgia59
said. Sounds like your racing mind is
somewhat calmer now.

Thank you for the complements. I also
wanted to add that I created a more
positive living space. I take care to have
my room ordered just the way I want it to
be, with objects that are positive to me
displayed around the room. I have very
little space, but I try to have in it only
the things that are friendly to me.
Philo, you are such an inspiration! I
always enjoy reading your posts. You offer
insight and wisdom as well as personal
experience to others here. You give hope
to those that need it so desperately.

Thank you. I think your posts are pretty
good too, antigone. I noticed my posts are
getting shorter and shorter because the
problem is always the same and I get tired
of repeating. I'm glad you're still going
full blast.
