You must never pretend in front of your parents.
They cannot feel your pain, but, they'll try to understand it if you share your feelings with them.
If they don't start the conversations about your disease, that doesn't mean they don't think about it.
Probably, they don't wanna treat you ill, just not to make you feel more miserable.
Please, talk to them.
I'm sure they love you, even if they don't support you, you have your doctor who can understand you and your disease completely.
If the therapy helps you, visit your doctor for prescriptions.

Thinking of you!

Thanks a lot mam...... Very Happy
but still i dont feel that they wish to hear about my problems....coz they really dont know that it pains this much...they just didnt understand...once when i tried to talk with my mom about this....other than my problems, they have their own problems.....
then i dont feel like making them sad or stressed by hearing my pains n probs.....
My parents love me a lot.....i know that...but they dont reallly knw about the seriousness of this fibro......
each time after a long talk, they take me to a doctor-but they dont allow me to continue the medicines(when one pack of the prescribed medicines finishes--they just forget about that- but i know that they remember but....)-may b thinking that those are harmful for me-or thinking about its after effect...
i dont know y am telling all these things to you......am sorry if my long talk irritated u....
thanks for the care u hav given me.........expecting more help from u......

Thanks again,

You need to ask the doctor next time you are there for an actual written prescription. It sounds like the doctor is giving you samples.
What med's is the doctor giving you?

I agree with the other posts. You do need to talk to your parents, as a parent of 3, I want to know when my kids are hurting, sad, feel fine, everything and anything they want to share.
We parents can get "wrapped up" in out problems as well but it doesn't mean we are not there for our kids.

You are right maybe your parents don't fully understand fibro. Have you been to different websites such as:

http://www.hopkins-arthritis.org/arthritis -info/fibromyalgia/

http://www.cdc.gov/arthritis/arthritis/fib romyalgia.htm

http://www.niams.nih.gov/Health_Info/Fibro myalgia/default.asp

these are just a few sites have your parents go through them with you.
You will get through this.

Have you tried warm baths, a hot tub (if a friend has one), go to your local YMCA they have exercise programs for people with fibro?

Keep posting and talking it helps to know people are there for you
and we are here for you.

As for college (Congrats by the way) talk to the health department or your adviser they can accommodate you as for your schedule when your fibro is getting worse as long as it documented.
Share your story with others at school when you get more comfortable. You'd be surprised at how many people feel the same way but have no idea what they are dealing with.

If you are afraid to approach your parents about the pains you are experiencing, try printing out information of what a fibro sufferer actually goes through and how the pains can affect their everyday life.
Once you know they have read the materials, one of them might approach you first. If not, approach them.
I am a mother and any problem that my child is going through is never beneath my own problems. I will always put my problems aside for hers, that's what being a parent is all about. Trust me. They will come around. You just need to be persistent.

Fibro can be manged with an anti-inflammatory diet. I was dx'd with FMS 8 years ago. I had my doubts about relief until I read a book by Dr. Asa Andrew: Empowering Your Health. Chapter 13 saved my life. Inflammation BEGINS in the digestive tract. To reset your digestive tract you can only eat foods on the approved list (which is lengthly) for four weeks and after that time frame you can begin to introduce other foods and see how your body reacts. Within 10 days of this anti-inflammatory diet I went from a terrible pain level of 10 to a zero and in the process I lost 8 pounds. I would never have imagined that certain foods in some people cause inflammation...like an allergy of sorts. Think about it. Nowadays we have so much processed foods and in truth half of the ingredients we have no clue as to what it is, it just tastes good. I love Ice Cream however if I have it, I always get pain. So I have to ask myself if the pain is worth it? Some people are allergic to peanuts, wheat, daily, etc and what happens is they have an allergic reaction...inflammation in a terrible life threatening way. Fibro is on the inside and causes pain.

Food for thought: Fibro they say is an epidemic. So think...when did we truly start with all these processed foods...not just a little but more and more. Everywhere you turn...ready to eat, in a box, pop it in the microwave...then you have animals which have been given antibiotics, etc. No wonder it is an epidemic.

Now I no longer take pain medication for pain or other medication to take care of side effects that other medication caused for Fibro management.

Fibro Approved Foods (Diet for anti-inflammation)
Awesome. Fibro worse in the cold, I know all to well about that. Suggestion if you change the foods that you eat you could be pain free or at least reduce the pain level and proceed to do your dream job...you would have the best of both worlds.

I personally know this diet works...it's not a diet to lose weight (it's a bonus) but to reduce inflammation which is what fibro is . When I eat foods on this list I do very, very well....pain zero. However if I stray...I pay. Stick to it for 4 weeks and then afterwards begin to introduce, if you will, other foods and see how your body reacts. I obtained this from a book by Dr Asa Andrew: Empowering Your Health and a note that for some people who start this process may be a tad bit grumpy for a few days as your body may go thru withdrawals for processed foods....mine was not bad..got a little achy but that soon disappeared. Good luck!

Don't give up on your dreams...Try adjusting your diet as the above member mentioned. Talk to your parents, your doctor, the college you will be attending they can help you.

Dress in layers as well, try hand and feet warmers (little packets to help keep you warm) They are sold in the hunting & fishing are in stores.

It is still very important to talk to your parents and doctors.

Have you tried water therapy?

Is there a pool at the college you will be attending?

Everyone's body is different for temperature so it's hard to say.

The health department at your college should have some knowledge about Fibro, if not introduce them to it. There are many people suffering in silence and I'm concerned you are going to become one them also.
There are numerous books on fibro and websites as well.
Please talk with your parents, at least star with them and they can help you with the college.
You might want to get back in to see your doctor before going to college.
Do you see a specialist for your fibro?

You are old enough to go to a doctor by yourself. I am 36 and was thought to have fibro. I was put on all kinds of meds that didn't work. My health is more severe than yours-they don't know what it is-but I have the same pain. Cold weather makes it worse. I moved from PA to to Virginia for the weather. You'll just need to keep your body a little more "overheated". At least that's what I did. My mother also doesn't want to hear that there is some kind of disease that has pretty much eaten my life. I have been through all kinds of tests and nothing comes out. THese forums have been helpful. So was seeing a psychologist. I hope your parents come around, but if they don't, you still need to take care of yourself. Good Luck

When I was at my absolute worse...I wanted to disappear, I felt the need to go away. Just so happens my employer at the time was so understanding as I did not have a dx, yet. I was so very, very, very fatiqued and any movement that I made caused horrific pain. You feel as if your body has been in a major accident however there are no bruises or cuts to show others the pain that you feel. Moving, feel pain...sit still and then move, the pain intestifies. Others will say, you look fine and healthy...must all be in your head. Don't you want to grab them and wish they could feel one second of what we feel / felt each and every moment of our lives. Anyway, he would let me work the hours that I could, if I became so tired that I could not keep my eyes open...he allowed me to close my door and take a nap until I was rested once more. Once my dx was given I had a better understanding and then 8 years later the diet came into play and I am feel normal again. Within the past two hours I have had a medium size bowl of cheese puffs...this is a BIG no-no....by tomorrow I will have aches until it is out of my system. Then I will decide if they were worth the pain. Not only was I dx with FMS I was also dx'd with MS...my MS currently behaves, and Fibro I have put to sleep for the time being. One thing that I take each and every morning for fatique (excessive daytime sleepiness) is Provigil. If it was not for it, I do not think I could make it thru the day without a nap or two and still be tired.

Now I am working a full time job, commute 50 miles one way and living life once more, the one in which I thought I would never have again. No longer taking mid day naps. Hang in there...and grab Empowering Your Health by Dr Asa Andrew....or provide a mailing address (via private message) and I'll send you one Smile I honestly care....

We all care about you and I'm glad you got such a great posts written from other users.
Remember not to avoid exercise on a daily basis.
A regular exercise routine will actually help you to increase your muscle strength, decrease your muscle pain, and it might even make it easier to get to sleep at night.
You will benefit the most from exercises that work all your muscle groups.
Try yoga exercises or pilates exercises for stretching, in order to get a better range of motion and increased comfort.
Practice aerobic exercise (walking, cycling, water exercises, and dancing), cause it stimulates our body to produce endorphins, which are natural painkillers.

You can try to apply arnica montana oil or lotion at the painful spots or all over your body.
Is an old homeopathic remedy that helps soothing muscle aches and stiffness.
Drink herbal tea throughout the day, and in the evening, that promote relaxation and can help you sleep at night, like German Chamomile, Valerian, Passion Flower, Catnip, Cowslip, Lemon Balm.
Inositol is one of the B vitamins that is helpful in inducing sleep along with pantothenic acid. You can try them separately or even together.

Congratulations for being a great student!
Thinking of you!

I'm sry to hear that ur having to go thru this all by ur self.I understand how u feel because I have been dealing w/this illness and others since I was a small child. As for things that u can do to help w/the pain outside of using pain meds u can take hot baths w/epsoms salts, use a heating pad,try to do some kind of streaching everyday for about 15mins,avoid caffene, avoid artfical sweetners, take a multi-vitamin.There are some prescription meds that are not pain meds that are used to help control the symptoms of FMS.Lyrica is one that has helped a lot of people.
Congrats on college and the dream that u have.As for the temp issue it is different for everyone.I do better in colder temps than I do in hotter ones.It is something that ur going to have to find out for urself.
Good Luck to u,
