liver stomach and spinal cancer

My father in-law recently found out he has cancer of the liver (where spots were first found) cancer of the stomach (5 tomours) and cancer of the spine. I know that any type of cancer is bad but how bad is it or does it make any difference how many places you have it. I need to know what we are up against. He is very worked up about chemo and the side effects and the overall out come of the treatment to the point he may not even have it. The family is trying to push him into getting the treatment but are we doing the right thing. I`m so confused. We dont really know what to think or expect and I guess I am looking for someone to shead some light on this if at all possible. Thank you for your time.
