I found out I have 8 lesions on my liver had a biospy done and it came back benign. Could it be that they hit a wrong lesion and maybe the others could be cancer. Can benign turn into cancer?

There is always a small possiblity that a needle biopsy can miss the actual lesion being biospied, but it would be impossible, of course, for me to say if this was the case with your biopsy.

Benign lesions of the liver are actually quite common, including cysts, hemangiomas, and adenomas. Rarely, large liver adenomas can progress to liver cancer over time.

You should bring your concerns to the physician who has been managing this problem for you, and seek further clarification for your peace of mind.

Sincerely/ Robert A. Wascher, MD, FACS
