I have recently had an ultrasound done and they found multiple cysts on my liver and an enlarged pancreatic duct. I have a dull pain in my upper right side just below my rib cage that sometimes radiates to my back. It started probably about a yr ago but is getting more frequent and more painful. I had an abdominal ct done about 4 yrs ago for other reasons and they did'nt find anything then accept a small kidney stone. So I am concerned why suddenly they developed. I am waiting to get in for a ct scan and cant stop worrying that it could be cancer. Can I get your thoughts please.

Hello, and thanks for your medical question on E Health Forum.

It is common to have benign cysts in the liver, which usually increase in incidence with age of the patient.

The enlarged pancreatic duct as shown by the ultrasound could be a sign of block in pancreatic duct. This could be most commonly due to pancreatitis or due to block by gall stones.

Presence of severe intractable retroabdominal pain, radiating the the back, that is associated with nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and loss of weight are signs of a serious cause such as pancreatic cancer. But this condition usually progresses rapidly and presents usually in later stages.

In absence of above mentioned symptoms could indicate that you have a very benign and treatable condition, which might be diagnosed by the CT scan.

I hope this helps.
