I recently went to the gyno and came back clean with no STDs or HPV. At the time, my doctor noticed little moles around my anus but I've had them there for years so I didn't think anything of it. After becoming obsessive about it I started realizing that after a hot bath one night, more appeared. Alot of things have changed in my life from taking new birth control pills to taking vitamins regularly to changing my laundry detergent so anything could be the cause of this strange outbreak?! Anyways, I started to pick at them last night and ended up tearing off most of them. I put tea tree oil on afterwards so that I didn't risk any infection. This morning I woke up and the skin around my anus is a dark color. Is this due to irritation or should I be worried? Please help.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The hyperpigmentation could be due to the irritation. It is difficult to comment on the exact cause without examining you. Consider getting the area examined by your treating gynecologist at the earliest. You can also consider taking an opinion from a dermatologist if necessary. Avoid any further self manipulation. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and investigation results) would be started to help you. Look out for development of any other new symptoms. Be in regular follow-up and monitoring of your treating gynecologist and report any unusual/abnormal/new symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle. Drink plenty of water.
Take care.
