I saw this mum at the mall and her daughter was walking with the pram slowly so the mum said 'hurry up Elijah hold onto the pram and get going i don't have much time to waste' in a stern voice, the daughter did as she said, who agrees that the mum's in today's society should have more patience and love for their children or at least the mum in the mall Question

Okay, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Elijah a boy's name? Secondly, I cannot begin to tell you how many times I tell my kids to hurry up. It is not because I am impatient, it is because they get distracted from doing what they need to do to get ready, to be safe, etc. I am pretty sure if one of my two were in the mall with me, dwadling around, I would stop and wait for them the first couple of times, but after that, sure I would tell them to hurry up. At least this woman cares enough to make sure she can see her son/daughter. I personally believe that in today's society, other people should not stick their noses into other parents' business so much.

i changed the name of the girl to protect her identity, but i now guess Emily is a common name. well maybe the mum had a bad day possibly. but i felt sorry for the girl that maybe she wasn't loved enough. well it'll teach her to be independent i guess which is better than being loved.

I don't see how a woman telling her child to hurry up (and just once, because I am going to assume you do not know this woman so you don't know how normal daily interactions between her and her child are)shows she isn't loving her child enough. I love my children more than anything, but there are days when I am out and I HAVE to get stuff done in a certain amount of time. And I would rather take my kids than have someone baby sit them. So yes, if I am in the mall and they are dwadling or getting distracted, and since the mall is sometimes crowded, I do tell them to hurry. It doesn't mean that I don't love them, and certainly is not teaching independence (think about it-telling your child to stay with you, instead of wandering off...that is not teaching independence), it just means that I care enough to be aware of where they are and what they are doing. What makes you think the girl wasn't loved enough? That her mom, on an isolated incidence, in a public place, reprimanded her and told her to hurry? Do you know why mommy needed her to hurry up? Maybe pressed for time for work? A doctor appointment? Maybe dirty diaper on the little one in the pram? Maybe little girl herself needed to go potty? I am all for reporting outright neglect or abuse, but I am not for questioning a parent based on an isolated incidence of them telling their kid to hurry up.

I agree, I often tell my daughter to hurry up and if I do not use a stirn voice she gets side tracked and starts touching things and such. I love my daughter more than life and i think you are being a touch critical ... I'm guessing you do not have young children?

I feel sorry for Emily, too. The mother doesn't sound very loving.
