Q: Lipoma on back

Hi I am a 16 year old girl and less than 3 months ago I found a 3 by 3 inch lipoma on my back. It is causing me back pain and restricts some of my movements. I would like to know what to expect because usually lipomas happen in older people, are slow growing, and small. Also this is the only lipoma i know I have and have never had them before. I am going to a surgeon tomorrow to figure out what we should do but I would like any advice about this and like to know what is going on.

There are different types of lipoma and with your age I think it is probably an Angiolipoma which....

Typically, these tender, soft, subcutaneous nodules are present in adolescence.
Tumors frequently are multilobulated and are somewhat firmer than ordinary lipomas.
The associated pain is vague and may be spontaneous or caused by pressure.

Lipomas are benign tumors composed of mature fat cells. Benign (B-9) Smile ='s not cancer.

To have it removed will be a simple procedure and your surgeon should explain this to you.

Best Wishes,
