Q: Likelihood of contracting HIV
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 17th, 2008
What were my risks (odds of contracting HIV)?

Were/are the tests worthless and should I be re-tested?

When should I be retested?

Are the "symptoms" I am experiencing HIV related?
Sinus infection related?
Stress related?

Mentally not doing well with this as starting to feel like a hypochondriac. Should I seek professional counseling?

Need answers, help and direction, not a moral judgement as I am my own worst enemy in that department.

HIV and AIDS Answer A4929
Risk for getting HIV-infection doesn’t depend upon the amount of alcohol consumed before, during, and after the risky sexual intercourse. If you didn’t use a condom the risk for getting HIV infection is less than 1%.

The tests were not worthless even if you made them too early because you find out that before the risky sex you were not infected.

You should be retested after 3 months.

Your symptoms could be related to HIV but they are so general that they can also be related to more than 90% of all types of infections including sinus infections.

Stress could cause many of your symptoms but usually don't cause mucous discharge from the nose.

You could visit your GP.
