Q: Likelihood of contracting an STD or HIV infection
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 23rd, 2009
I had oral sex with a woman 2 weeks ago and notice the following after about 3 to 4 days: Cracked outside mouth corners, sore shoulder muscles that lasted about 3 days, pin and needle feeling in arms and legs mostly during day time with a burning feeling on inside arms ocasionally, numb feelin in face, ear and throat area from time to time. This was the 1st time ever that I had a sexual relation with anothe woman other than my normal long stanging partner. Is this possible early symptoms of HIV infection or any other possible sexual infection?

The symptoms you reported are not specific enough for any sexually transmitted disease to be suggested. Most of them include symptoms of the urinary tract, discharge, and painful or burning urination being the most frequent. These symptoms might even indicate that a flu infection has occurred. HIV infection is also possible, but you will have to wait for the so called “window period” to pass to do HIV tests (3 and 6 months after exposure).
