I had unprotected sex and got my period the very next day. I also started my first round of birth control ever (Loestrin 24 FE) that next day. I was on my period for about two weeks. I had the next period on schedule of my birth control for 4 days. Then about a week ago, two weeks from my previous period, I started again and have been on it for about a week.I know you don't have periods when you are pregnant but I'm wondering if my birth control may be controlling it? I feel extremely bloated-- almost like there is a beach ball in my stomach-- and very emotional/hormonal. Is there any possibility of me being pregnant and am only getting a period because of the birth control?

Hello,

Welcome to ehealthforum and thanks for writing

After the sexual contact you had normal periods and also immediately started the pills and if you have been taking the pills regularly withpout missing any dose then possibility of pregnancy is almost nil.

The various symptoms as irregular periods, mood swings, bloating, nausea, headaches, fatigue are due to the oral contraceptive use and are very common effects present for initial few months until the body gets adjusted to the hormonal changes. It seems you are also experiencing them because of the pill use.

COnsider taking the pills regularly every day and avoid stress as it can cause further changes in the cycle. If you notice any unusual symptom as missed period for more than a month, cramping associated with severe prolonged bleeding etc then consider visiting a Gynaecologist for evaluation.

Take care!
