Q: Light spotting before active pills

Today I noticed after urinating that there was some brown colored discharge there, spotting. I just started my last week of active birth control pills, I've been on the pill for 4 or 5 months now and this has never happened before. It worries me because I don't always take the pill at the exact time every day. Sometimes there's up to a 2 hour difference from the time I'm supposed to take it. I just want to know if this very light spotting before I'm done with the active pills is normal. Any help or knowledge on the matter is greatly appreciated!!!

I am a health care professional =)

Truthfully, sometimes we just do not know what causes spotting and breakthrough bleeding.

Here are some causes, and other than this we consider it a fluke occurrence.
Antibiotic use- Certain antibiotics reduce the hormonal dosage in your body, due to the interaction with the liver.(all meds go through the liver)

Missing a pill or taking it later than usual..

Saint johns wort-For the same reason as antibiotic use

Other than this, usually it is a fluke! It does not mean that your pill is not working.

Thanks so much for the info!

I was taking antiobotics last month after getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Could that have had any effect on my period this month?

If was a different 'pill package' then it would not have an effect.

IF it was this same pill package, then yes, that would make sense that you are spotting.
