Q: Lifestyle changes for acid reflux
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 27th, 2009
I have acid reflux problem and was checkec by a doctor thoroughly. First he told me that there is Bictaria in my stomach and was given strong medication which I took for ten days. After that I started to feel little better then I started to take Nixium twice a day and now I feel much better. Though, I still start to get mild burning sensation and get out of breath feeling from my upper stomach. I have been checked by a Cardialogist and had stress test done and my heart checked. He told me that every thing is fine. I get this out of breath feeling starting from my upper stomach. Need ADVICE.

You would like to know whether there is any kind of treatment for the mild burning sensation that you experience.

Acid reflux is upward ejection of acid from the stomach into the esophagus, causing pain known as heartburn. The acid doesn’t harm the stomach lining, but if not treated for a rather long time the acid reflux may be the reason for malignant transformation of the esophagus lining, causing cancer.

You may change your diet in order to prevent the reflux. You may consider having small meals and avoiding having supper before you go to bed. You may consider avoiding taking food or drinks and water at least an hour before bedtime. You may also see a gastroenterologist to make the regular exams for the medical condition you were diagnosed with and to consult him/her about the treatment options.

Please keep in mind that I am trying to provide you with medical information here. I am not able to give you medical advice online. Please contact your doctor or a qualified healthcare provider such as a gastroenterologist to learn more about treatment options.
