Q: Levoxyl dosage increase
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 6th, 2008
How many times can this dosage be increased and are there other options? About the last month or so I am having extreme heartburn, stomach upset and chest pain...are these all related?

Thyroid Cancer Answer A4095
Levels of Thyroxin (T4) and Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) are monitored to estimate the Levoxyl dose. TSH and T4 should be measured at least 8 weeks after the dosage change to evaluate the effects from dosage change. Your TSH level is increased but no value is given for Thyroxin level in the blood.

Hypothyroidism can be only treated by supplementing the missing hormone.
Heartburn and upset stomach can be due to a stomach disorder (gastritis for example). Chest pain is probably due to your angina pectoris. Increased cholesterol is probably due to the hypothyroidism.
