Thyronorm (generic name: levothyroxine sodium) is a medication that contains the thyroxin hormone which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. When, for various reasons, the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroxine, it should be replaced artificially by supplementation with tablets. The dosage depends on the daily quantity that is not produced and has to be supplemented.

As in many other tablets, the levothyroxine sodium absorption in the intestines might be affected by other substances. And, the levothyroxine sodium dosage being very important, it is highly advised to avoid decreased absorption. Therefore, levothyroxine sodium is recommended to be taken when no other food or liquid is ingested, in order to prevent absorption interference. The absorption would need at least half an hour for the levothyroxine sodium to enter the blood, but this time might reach one hour, too.

You might want to visit an endocrinologist for additional information on the levothyroxine pharmacokinetics.
